We cannot recommend this article more… because if you are serious about Internet marketing then you really have to get involved…

The StumbleUpon app for the iPhone and iPad is a simple idea and an extension of the StumbleUpon.com website. This app is a great little mobile tool for helping with optimization of websites and tracking popular pages. You can see in an instant what your favorite ‘stumble’ is doing by click counting and watching trends. Your mobile account is automatically synced with your web account so you can browse your Likes anytime on either platform, enabling you to share your interesting finds with anyone via email, StumbleUpon, Facebook, Twitter and others. This is a very useful addition to my app collection and it works perfectly side by side with my WordPress app. Read more…

#WordPress + #StumbleUpon on #iPhone = Powerful tool

StumbleUpon is becoming the most useful ‘share link’ site around. The element of randomness that is built into both the website and app, by finding pages by chance, can be the inspiration that fuels a new idea. I can’t recommend it highly enough – excellent. The StumbleUpon app for the iPhone and iPad is a simple idea and an extension of the StumbleUpon.com website.

Your #business is a success – the hard work has paid off

Veronica Henry

You suddenly wake up one morning and realize your business is a total success, all the hopes and dreams, the hard work and pain has paid off – BIG TIME.

You have the latest iPhone, the latest Aston Martin V8 Vantage Coupe, the Art on the wall and the biggest Cartier watch in the world; you suddenly have more Twitter followers and Facebook friends (who want to bask in the heat of your shadow) but all this proof of success is dismissed in your head and self perceived as just luck, timing, or a result of deceiving others into thinking you are more intelligent and competent than you actually are.

This fear of being found out is a natural process, you eventually get over it.

…Psychologists call this ‘Imposter Syndrome’ — or the nagging feeling that we haven’t really earned our success. It’s astonishingly common: raise the subject in any circle of friends, and confessions will tumble forth.

Veronica Henry (best selling author, TV script writer and features writer) explains: ‘Lots of people envy the ability to write, and so think you’re a genius, and you sit there and think: “No, I’m not!”. That leads you to think: “Am I a fraud? Am I lucky? Am I just hard-working?” You flip between feeling very confident and then not at all.’…

Looking online for products or services

Eat your greens
More and more, buyers are looking online for products or services local to them,  a business that is just around the corner always somehow feels safer  than another in the next county and search engines, including Google, are enabling the client to find local enterprises by including a map of local businesses in search results. Google and Bing have also confessed that social media affects rankings –  if a post on a blog or page on your  website gets several “likes” (facebook) or “re-tweets” (twitter) both search engines appear to assume the article or page is popular and by getting ‘local likes’ and ‘local re-tweets’ the more assumed importance a search engines thinks your page is and it is most probable the higher the page will rank.

The most efficient way (we have found) to get noticed in the first place is to place a simple xml sitemap onto your site and then physically submit the page(s) to Google and the other main players.

Will your clients  find you? Whether you are selling online or off you need to be visible.

‘Buy British’ campaign

Robert Maxwell‘s ‘Buy British’ campaign

According to his sympathetic biographer Joe Haines, the Labour Member of Parliament Robert Maxwell had the idea for a popular ‘Buy British’ campaign around the same time as the ‘I’m Backing Britain’ campaign emerged. Through an intermediary, Maxwell approached broadcaster David Frost; Frost gave a personal donation of £1,000 and invited Maxwell to appear on his television show on Friday 5 January 1968. On television Maxwell told viewers to “think before buying. Buy the home product or service first whenever you can, even if it means buying less for a time”. Maxwell tried to amalgamate his campaign with that of the Industrial Society, but the Society refused him. He therefore set up a rival “Help Britain Group”. Are you ‘Backing Britain’? Creating networks that increase sales are a vital part of business survival. Everybody is using networks like Twitter and Facebook however, the majority of advertising opportunities within these sites are shrinking. An interesting or funny tweet always works for me.

Facebook – Emperor’s new clothes?

I know I’m a middle aged English man but I am a bit fed up with ‘targeted advertising’. Look – I have an eight year old son, which means I can’t go on luxury cruises exclusively for adults, I can’t afford it anyway – I’m a starving artist.

peter bright - painting 2005

A starving artist is an artist who sacrifices material well-being in order to focus on their artwork. They typically live on minimum expenses, either for a lack of business or because all their disposable income goes toward art projects. (via Wikipedia)

Maybe I do qualify for cheaper insurance but for goodness sake don’t ram the age thing down my throat. I’m happy with who I am but… Maybe I am too old for Facebook or maybe it is because I have a mind and will of my own!

Do you remember the story of the Emperor’s new clothes, you know the one about the king type guy who walked around naked because he was told he looked good and only the smart dudes could see and appreciate his finery, is this what Facebook has become? When I look closely at it I see very little substance – or maybe I am not ‘cool’ and out of step – underneath the finery all I see is a mishmash of clutter and idle chitchat. It’s a load of nonsense! Full of people obsessing about themselves all piles of self-promotion promoting thing that nobody really wants. YAWN.

What is Social Media and how can businesses can use them?

1: Social Media Means Social Networking
Social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, have become great resources for finding new customers. But to get these networks (especially Twitter) to work to your advantage, networking is crucial. Your prospective clients search for companies with similar interests and services to their own and support them by “following” them or “liking” them. The idea is that those companies will return the favour — ultimately leading traffic to both sites, and helping each company grow.

2: Update, Update, Update
The World Wide Web is more dynamic than ever these days, which means it’s becoming more and more important that your clients are frequently updating their sites. Fresh content keeps people coming back for more. Facebook fan pages need daily new content, and interactive websites such as a blog should be updated at least 3 to 4 times a week. While this may sound aggressive, clients will benefit by recognizing the importance of keeping their site content fresh — without it, people will stop visiting.

This all sounds very expensive to me, too much time wasted and a greater workload for maybe little return.

A bombardment of self promotion from twitter, facebook etc.

This Window

“Come and see my new products on my new website! 😉 You know as soon as that pops up in front of you on your screen the prospect of having a tooth removed without pain relief is more tempting. This constant relentless blitzkrieg of drivel makes me want to surrender. Quite frankly if your modus operandi is purely to get noticed, because you think you are interesting, you need to get a life! Put some of your energy into saving the planet (or a Panda) and not just your ego. Better still get out there and make real friends and become interesting.

This constant bombardment of self promotion from twitter, facebook etc. is driving me nuts. The Internet is a more sophisticated tool than this. It is a travesty to allow it to become a vehicle for pure unadulterated, egotistical spam.

Do social Networks really work?

Your Profile – First impressions mean everything and presenting a positive profile is the top priority, you need to divulge as much information about yourself as you can to make your ‘friends’ feel comfortable – as though they know you in real life, use your first name and a real profile picture. It is all about creating a confident network, were people have faith in you.

Positivity is better than Negativity – Be positive about yourself and your brand. Bring new, interesting and accurate information to blogs and discussion groups. Give quality feedback and try to be helpful to other users – always try to be positive and upbeat. This is possibly the best tip.

Be There – Get noticed. Join all popular networks like facebook, twitter, wordpress, blogger etc. – creating as many different connections as you can is the key to online success. Search through interests to build your social media marketing network.

Brand Image? – Every word you write affects your brand, followers and ‘quoters’ will dump you if you make a mistake. This strategy might not sell your products but you will come out of the experience as a ‘nice guy’ and you never know you might make a small amount of cash out of it.

But do social Networks really work?

This constant bombardment of self promotion from twitter, facebook etc. is driving me nuts. The Internet is a more sophisticated tool than this. It is a travesty to allow it to become a vehicle for pure unadulterated, egotistical spam.

Not only has the cash in our pockets been devalued but the products we promote are being devalued by the abuse of the tools the Internet provides – this has been so since the first birth pangs of our almighty WEB. Spam is spam, not promotion.

The only thing that reads this garbage is Google – The penny has dropped…
