#Blogger or #WordPress – import #Tumblr

Stolen Blog Posts:

Just to prove blogger‬ can be a clean, simple blogging‬ tool that can do the job for a small company:

System Culture Limited: You need a second opinion: Google is now penalising websites that are not mobile and tablet friendly. If your company website is not appearing in mobile searches your…

There are so many different ways to blog. In our opinion the top two packages are Blogger and WordPress. There is very little to chose between them – WordPress is more adaptable but blogger (if you have your own domain name) does really well in searches.
–  Blogger is a blog-publishing service that allows multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries. It was developed by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003. Generally, the blogs are hosted by Google at a subdomain of blogspot.com. Blogs can also be hosted in the registered custom domain of the blogger (like http://www.example.com). So blogspot.com domain publishings will be redirected to the custom domain. A user can have up to 100 blogs per account.

Blogger was ranked 16 on the list of top 50 domains in terms of number of unique visitors in 2007 and since 2003 there have been several redesigns and upgrades to the layouts and dashboard, making this an easy to use platform for the novice blogger.
– This package can be easily adapted to become a content management system and delivers a mighty bang when used to optimize a website. WordPress appeared in 2003, with a few users who were looking for a way to enhance the typography of writing on the Web. Since then it has grown to be the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world, used on millions of sites and seen by tens of millions of people every day.

– Development of Tumblr began in 2006 during a two-week gap between contracts at David Karp’s software consulting company, Davidville (housed at Karp’s former internship with producer/incubator Fred Seibert’s Frederator Studios which was located a block from Tumblr’s current headquarters). Karp had been interested in tumblelogs (short-form blogs) for some time and was waiting for one of the established blogging platforms to introduce their own tumblelogging platform.

Yahoo + Tumblr = 2013. Tumblr has always been the wolf in sheep’s clothing – making other blogging platforms take note. Since 2007 its profile has slowly grown and raised a few admiring eyebrows. The product is a good one but what will happen when the brand gets smothered with Yahoo advertising will people ditch the brand?

With a press conference due in New York’s Times Square, just a couple of miles from Tumblr’s headquarters, nobody expects Mayer will turn up empty-handed. According to the Wall Street Journal on Sunday evening, the Yahoo board have agreed to pay $1.1bn for Tumblr and will let it continue to operate as an independent business.

Yahoo declined to comment before the announcement, but pointed out that it would be streamed live. That is something the company has previously only done (in audio) for its quarterly financial results. For Yahoo, capturing the white-hot blogging site could catapult it back into the top flight of contenders in a web world that has become hugely more complicated since it was set up in March 1995 – before Google and nearly a decade before Facebook. The Guardian

This rise in popularity of Tumblr has encouraged WordPress to implement a strategy of informing WordPress users that they are quite happy for dual users to import Tumblr blog entries into WordPress via one of the Tumblr to WXR conversion tools that are available on the web. FULL SET OF A&BC MAN FROM UNCLE GUM CARDS – COMPLETE BLACK AND WHITE SET -1965

The Man From Uncle
Complete set of A&BC Man from Uncle Cards 1965 – no. 1 to 55

An attic find in reasonable condition (considering age). See photographs to judge condition.

The Man from Uncle. was an American television series broadcast on NBC from September 22, 1964, to January 15, 1968. It follows secret agents, played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum, who work for a secret international espionage and law-enforcement agency called U.N.C.L.E. Originally co-creator Sam Rolfe wanted to leave the meaning of U.N.C.L.E. ambiguous so it could refer to “Uncle Sam” or the United Nations. Concerns by the MGM legal department about using “U.N.” for commercial purposes resulted in the producers’ clarification that U.N.C.L.E. was an acronym for the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement. Each episode had an “acknowledgement” to the U.N.C.L.E. on the end titles.

Yahoo bought Tumblr

Tumblr has always been the wolf in sheep’s clothing

Way back in the earlier days of Internet history one brand became a market leader for search – then almost disappeared. Yahoo is fighting back, even if they are still only playing catch up.

For a while now Tumblr has been making waves with their blogging platform – but now maybe there is a threat on the horizon. Since 2007 its profile has slowly grown and raised a few admiring eyebrows. The product is a good one but what will happen if the brand gets smothered with Yahoo advertising will people ditch the brand?

Not quite a year after arriving at Yahoo! from Google, chief executive Marissa Mayer has apparently persuaded her board to approve the purchase of Tumblr – the go-to website for legions of young bloggers and internet sharers – for $1.1bn in cash, despite it making just $13m in sales last year.

The move, which will give Yahoo! a greater presence in social networking, will also make one more very young Silicon Valley tycoon out of David Karp. Now 26, Mr Karp launched Tumblr from his mother’s New York apartment in 2007. He had hitherto resisted approaches by potential buyers. The Independent

The best way to get business on the Internet is to be on page one of all the major search engines

You can pay to get to the top but is this the best way forward? People probably click “organic search results” more often than paid ads – this could be for a number of reasons but as the end user becomes more savvy he has become more cynical about the tightening grip search engines have. Alternative forms of investment

The art and collectors market seems to be a recession proof market with prices going up and up – maybe it is time to invest…or look in the attic?

‘It looks like any other weather-worn camera but this 1923 Leica is extremely rare and sold for £1.75m at auction this month – making it the world’s most expensive camera. Incredibly the camera still works- though you’ll need to work the shutter, aperture control and a film-winding knob.

The model still retains the firm’s former name, Ernst Leitz GmbH, and is known for its role in photojournalism of the early 20th century. The camera shattered its pre-sale estimate of £243,000 and was sold to an anonymous collector.’  From Yahoo News

The first Leica prototypes were built by Oskar Barnack at Ernst Leitz Optische Werke, Wetzlar, in 1913. Intended as a compact camera for landscape photography, particularly during mountain trips, the Leica was the first practical 35 mm camera that used standard cinema 35 mm film. The Leica transports the film horizontally, extending the frame size to 24×36 mm, with a 2:3 aspect ratio, instead of the 18×24 mm that cinema cameras use, as they transport the film vertically.

The Leica went through several iterations, and in 1923 Barnack convinced his boss, Ernst Leitz II, to make a pre-production series of 31 cameras for the factory and outside photographers to test. Though the prototypes received a mixed reception, Ernst Leitz decided in 1924 to produce the camera. It was an immediate success when introduced at the 1925 Leipzig Spring Fair as the Leica I (for Leitz camera). The focal plane shutter had a range from 1/20 to 1/500 second, in addition to a Z for Zeit (time) position.

Alternative forms of investment other than traditional forms of  investments in stocks, bonds, cash, or property, could be a way of ‘bucking the trend’. The term ‘Alternative’ is a relatively loose one and includes tangible (?) assets such as art, wine, antiques, coins, or stamps. Why not invest in your own Art and Collectable Business?

Travel Journal – Vintage and retro photography

With the birth of digital imaging we can all be accomplished photographers – there is however a resurgence of analogue photography. Is this nostalgia or a quest for artistry?

The image on the left was taken with a Pentax K1000 in 2012, using a 35 mm film black and white Ilford HP5 film. The negatives were scanned using a HP film scanner. This Pentax camera is a single-lens reflex (SLR) camera, manufactured by Asahi Optical Co., Ltd. The production run was from 1976 to 1997, originally manufactured in Japan and then assembled in China. The Pentax K1000 uses a horizontal travel, rubberized silk cloth focal plane shutter with a speed range of 1/1000 second to 1 second, along with Bulb and a flash X-sync of 1/60 second. It is 91.4 millimetres tall, 143 mm wide, and 48 mm deep, and weighs 620 grams. The body was finished in black leather with chrome trim only, although early production Pentax K1000 SE bodies had brown leather with chrome trim.
